| The Antarctic is technically a desert. Any place with hardly any rainfall is (the water is frozen, doesn't actually count). |

Definition time!
tundra
a cold or icy desert
See? A desert doesn't need to be hot. I learned that while looking through a dictionary for something that wasn't even in the T section... somehow. |

| As long as is gets like less than 1 inch of rain or something it could be in the midddle of an ocean and get 1/2 inch of rain and be considered a desert |

| Image links are dead...although this is a somewhat old bump, should put them on the site or official forums. |

Just to chime in on the old conversation from October , I live in a valley in the Mojave desert. At certain times of the year it can be 75+ degrees out and I can look at the hills around me and see snow. Within an hour or two I can be on that snow. Not to mention that at night the desert drops in temperature extremely rapidly. I don't think it's at all far fetched to place a desert area and a snow covered area next to each other.
BTW, half the trick to the effect is elevation. I'm around 2500 feet above sea level. Around here, thats about 100-200 feet below the snow line usually. So the hills around me get loads of snow while we get none. |
